Beginning a new chapter

Posted by Andrew on May 18, 2012 in Employment

It is with great regret that I have left Legal Graphicworks.  Though the work there was very rewarding, it was not a good fit for me.   I wish them well.

I am currently in talks with a number individuals and companies regarding potential opportunities as well as working on development of a few projects that I have had in the works and wish to complete.  One of the first of those projects is EVView, a WIFI enabled gauge system for electric conversions.

My departure also leaves me with the freedom to take on consulting and contract projects.

Battery Monitoring System Interface

Posted by Andrew on May 17, 2012 in Code, Electric Vehicles

The front end for the battery monitoring system is really coming along. The key is creating meaningful real time graphs that allow the user to see what is going on in their battery pack. The most important two voltages are the highest cell and lowest cell because these determine how much juice can be put into your pack and how much can be drawn out.

View of the pack as it is being charged.

Using Wifi for Automotive Guages in Electric Cars

Posted by Andrew on May 1, 2012 in Electric Vehicles, Hobbies

Working with Charlie Malone from Vintage Voltage, I have been creating a wireless wifi battery monitoring system called EVView™. The system is comprised of a wifi enabled device that hooks up to Charlie’s Battery Management System and displays the status of every cell on any wifi enabled device with a browser. The main design is intended for iPad and Android Pad devices that could be mounted in the car for easy monitoring. Combined with a wifi router and wireless G card the system could also be accessed over the internet for viewing your cars battery status remotely with an iPhone or iPad.

Interviewed for a story in the Sun Sentinel

Posted by Andrew on Apr 15, 2012 in Hobbies

My work on the electric car has started to get a lot of attention. I was contacted last week by the Sun Sentinel about doing and interview. Doreen Hemlock came out and spent about an hour interviewing me about electric cars and how I built my own. I took her for a ride in the EVGT-40 and she was really impressed. “What a smooth ride,” she said. I also provided her with some other contacts in our Electric Auto Association that she could follow up with. I was surprised and honored to find a photo of my car on the front page of the Sunday edition of the Sun Sentinel this morning.

Using AJax

Posted by Andrew on Sep 29, 2011 in Code

More and more web pages are used more as applications than just web pages. One of the best ways to do this is with the use of AJAX. Ajax isn’t a programming language but a methodology that uses existing languages such as javaScript and PHP. Using ajax allows the developer to update that web page without actually reloading the whole page. The most well know use of this is on Google where they begin giving you search words as you start to type them.

A good way to get into AJAX is to go through this tutorial on the W3Schools web site. Click here.

Posted by Andrew on Jul 6, 2011 in Animation

Andrew McClary joined Legal Graphicworks as the Vice President of Interactive Media less than two months ago and has already had a chance to help provide graphic support for a major case, the Casey Anthony trial. The job of the graphic team at Legal Graphicworks was to come up with clear and easy to understand graphics and trial boards to allow the defense attorneys to effectively convey the evidence to the jury. CBS 12 of Palm Beach interviewed Andrew and the CEO of the company Jim Lucas shortly after the trial ended.

My Electric Car Project is Chosen as a finalist

Posted by Andrew on Jun 1, 2011 in Hobbies

EVGT-40

My electric car project, the EVGT-40 was chosen as a finalist in EVtv’s $20,000 EV Components Contest.  This is a great honor to be selected out of the 900+ entries that they received.  Winning this contest would really take the EVGT-40 to a level that I could never afford to take it to.  I really need everyone’s help to win.
